We think it doesn't get much cuter than this breed. The Vizsla is a very smart, very high energy dog. They are great at hunting, agility, and field trial work.

Today’s spotlight dog is the Vizsla, the Hungarian Pointer. The AKC Standard calls the breed “lively, gentle-mannered, demonstrably affectionate, and sensitive.”  The good-natured canine has also been called a “Velcro” dog because he is so tactile — he likes to attach himself to people, preferably in their laps.

Looking beyond the cuteness, here are a few facts about the adorable breed:
1. They are needy – This breed has incredibly high energy and social needs. They seem to require 2-3x as much attention and exercise as other dogs their age.
2. When you purchase one, you join a secret Vizsla Club – Other Vizsla owners consider you family. They like you JUST because of the type of dog you chose. People will come up to you and say, “Is that a Vizsla?” They have a look on their face that means they are proud because they know what kind of dog it is. Most likely they are groupies. They are proud just to know about the club.

3. It is pronounced Veez-shla – Unfortunately most of these people pronounce “Vizsla” wrong. It’s ok, we still love them because they think our dogs are the best.

4. They have a tendency to suffer from separation anxiety.   More than most other breeds, Vizslas need a great deal of companionship and do not like being left alone for more than a few hours. They tend to express their unhappiness through destructive chewing and barking. If you work all day, this is not the breed for you.
