Molly Moore and her puppy Wesley live in Spring Lake, Michigan, where she works at her father’s veterinary clinic. Wesley the Golden Retriever is no ordinary puppy. While he is happy and energetic, dental issues with his incoming teeth resulted in behavioral changes, concerning his owner.
She noticed that as Wesley’s teeth came in, he could not close his mouth all the way. As a result, he was playing with his toys and eating less, causing him to lose an unhealthy amount of weight. “It was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain free and live a happy puppy life,” said Molly.
Wesley’s condition is called malocclusion. This means that his teeth do not comfortably fit inside his mouth when it closes, preventing it from closing all the way.
Luckily, her father, Jim Moore, specializes in veterinary dentistry. Jim decided that the best option was to apply braces to the six-month-old puppy’s tiny teeth. Jim does these procedures fairly regularly, and they have a high success rate in helping dogs with serious medical concerns. Images of Wesley with his new hardware are stealing hearts all over the internet. Wesley only has to wear the braces for a few weeks, and then he will be back to his happy, playful self.
